Freelance Series: Creative Resources for Freelancers in Amsterdam
When I first moved abroad to Amsterdam in 2009, I honestly didn’t have much of a plan. I knew I wanted to spend a year living in Europe. And I knew that I wanted to continue my past experience in photography and storytelling. A decade later, here I am — still living and working in Amsterdam as a freelance creative. I made it happen!
But, in full transparency, it wasn’t an easy path.
It took a few years (and a lot of hustling!) to get my freelancing career off the ground. If you’re new to freelancing in Amsterdam, check out my post about Tips for Freelancers in Amsterdam. That’s a great post for getting started.
Over time, most of the impostor syndrome has worn off, and I’ve figured out some balance to working as a freelance creative in Amsterdam.
I get a lot of questions and do my best to share my experience with others. Freelancing is indeed competitive, and many others want to hoard their tips. However, having a community mind and being helpful to others is far more positive. I learned from a lot of trial and error along the way, and if my experience can help someone else, I think that’s great! Knowledge is power.
